Electronic surveillance is effective10/9/2018 In Antwerp and Ghent, two major Belgian cities, almost all political parties are in favour of installing cameras to fight-off fly-tipping according to an inquiry by newspaper ‘De Morgen’.
Are cameras the solution? Waste company OVAM has been experimenting with such cameras for two years now. The first evaluation shows that installing electronic surveillance indeed is effective. “The chances of catching perpetrators increase, while the presence of such cameras also has a discouraging effect,” explains Jan Verheyen (OVAM). The mobile cameras in the city of Lummen prove their value once again. “In the course of three months, 100 fly-tippers have been caught red-handed” says council member Wim Vangeel. “Analyses show that less than half of all perpetrators live in Lummen and that 45% of them are between 40 and 50 years old. Four out of five perpetrators are men."
"Most of the time, perpetrators choose quiet roads to dump their trash. Very often, trash gets tossed out of the car window. If someone would toss out litter four times, in let’s say a distance of 100m, they will get fined four times as well.” Read the full article (in Dutch): Het Nieuwsblad

The mobile cameras in Lummen have proven their value once again. One fly-tipper got caught four times within 24 hours while dumping cans and bottles. He can expect a severe fine and has to pay for the clear-up costs as well.

Mobiqam at Speakers Corner2/7/2018 We had the opportunity to showcase Mobiqam during IFSEC International. Not only were we able to demonstrate and illustrate our brand new mobile camera to a diverse audience, the presentation also resulted in an article afterwards by IFSEC Global:

Mobiqam goes global11/6/2018 After years of working with local authorities and listening closely to their feedback, Mobiqam was born. The mobile camera is already being used by 25 local authorities in Belgium. Using mobile cameras helped reduce crime rates by 22% within five years time in the city of Hasselt (Belgium).
